Robert,

That's a great Army training video from 1961 on motor and generator theory. Thanks for posting.

My brother in law gave me his old Army training manuals from the mid-late 60s. They include modules on electrical and electronic theory, microwaves, missle guidance systems, physics, etc. I'm enjoying reading and learning about vacuum tubes, as I have some equipment that employs them.

Steve,

I'm glad you found the video interesting. I'm always interested in old videos of that sort no matter what the subject is. Rail, Electricity, Communications, etc.

Those manuals your brother in law gave you are a hidden gold mine of information. Take good care of them as most civilians will never have access to those types of materials. They are priceless artifacts.

Vacuum tubes, I've been fascinated by them and have a couple I found on the ground half buried several years ago while out investigating a scrapyard. I always wanted to restore a vacuum tube radio for the heck of it. I like those used in England that could run on 220v AC or DC. They used dropper resistors instead of transformers.

As a kid, I remember some of the cheaper tube radios didn't have power supply transformers. The tube heater filaments were wired in series and connected to the incoming line voltage. As you probably know, the first numbers in a vacuum tube's p/n identify the filament voltage. Example: 12AX7 has a 12 volt filament. IIRC, those radios had a couple of 50C5 tubes and a few other tubes whose series voltage ratings added up to ~120V.
