That is a reversible, adjustable speed / torque repulsion motor. VERY cool. From full power in one direction, to full stop, to full power in the opposite direction, all by moving the lever, which moves the brush rigging. Of all the motors I have, I only have One of those.

Estate sale. That's never a good thing.

I forgot. It has the look of General Electric, but may have been rebranded by the maker of the machine it was on, such as a magneto test stand.

Sounds like something for an elevator (looks small for that though) or some kind of hoist?

I love the forward/stop/reverse switches with the lever and wooden ball. They always seem to have very smooth operation.
