Hercules...my engine has all of two casting numbers on it. one on the push rod trip finger and one in the piston.

i think all except the real big le rois. a lot of them even have the casting date on the block and head or cooling hopper

Root & VanDervoort did. As well as being the part number, on the Triumph Line engines the part number also gives the model and horsepower.
