Unhappy Re: I have a white smoke baroling out of my onan genset/emerald 1

Ok the hole story. This last weekend I over field the genterator with oil. It did not start intill I drained it out. It ran for 2 or 3 hours before I stop for the night. The next morning I started it and almost as soon as it started the smoke came out of the excause thick white and strong. It ran for at lest 5 to ten mim be for I shut it down. What is the next move.

Run it for longer, under full load - your breathers etc. are probably full of oil, which will burn off once you get it good and hot for a while...

Have you checked the oil level since this happened. Just wondering if maybee the float valve in the carburetor may have stuck and let gasoline continue to trickle into the engine and find it's way into the crankcase.

There probably is oil hung up in the valve galley, and you still may have too much oil in the crankcase! Also, are you using the proper grade of oil?

I would drain the oil, and re-fill to the low line on the stick. Clean out the crankcase breather, and air filter of any excess oil. Start the engine, and see if the oil smoke clears after 10 to 15 minutes. If it does, fill to proper level, and you are good to go. If it still smokes, I would look for any place where oil could have puddled when the engine was overfull, and see if the engine is pulling the lube oil into the intake. Make sure the engine is leveled properly. A tipped engine may splash enough oil to a place where the engine can pull it thru the intake!

Check to make sure the breather check valve isn't stuck closed.

I removed it on to my bench. I have taken the air, excause manafold, and the carb off before I got any replies. I found what looks like haft of o-ring or seal inside of the intake. The plugs look black, one looks wet. Before I put it back together and try to run it is there anything else that is simple to check at this point.
