Default SMOKESTAK problem

Since saturday i have incountered a problem on this site. When I log in, and want to open the first thread to read, my computer freezes. Then I get a message that "smokestak is not responding because of long running script". Then I get another message that Microsoft is trying to fix the problem also. Finally I get a box to click on "stop script". After a short time of clicking on this box, my computer un- freezes until I click on the next thread to view. Then the whole process starts over again.

Is anyone else experiancing this?? Any help welcome. All other sites I visit seem OK! Thanks Tim

Tim, working good here. I had this exact issue a couple years back on my old system. Had it checked out and had a bug on my end that my viruse protection didnt identify. The tech that looked at it fixed it. Try an online scan program. Theres quite a few out there.

Good luck
Brian

Maybe Internet Explorer needs reloaded. I had to have this done with my laptop, Windows 7. I see you have an "e" in smokestak instead of smokstak. Could that be the problem? Good Luck, Ed

I've had a similar problem but with a lot of sites on Internet Explorer I've had to switch to Firefox Until I get a chance to uninstall and reinstall IE and see if that help. My problems started after upgrading to Windows 7. Consider checking if Windows Update has run recently and installed some patches.

The patches thing very well could be the problem. I've had to back up on some updates/patches a few times. Usually fixed the problem. MS gets it wrong at times.

On the top of IE go to tools, manage add-ons then in the list disable Shockwave flash object. Your problem should now be fixed

You have viruses, addaware, trogans, in your system. You may need to check for updates, do it manualy, keep checking for updates untill it says you have them all. Also pull up your virus scan and do a complete scan, if it finds anything you can get rid of it. After cleaning out the viruses, download google chrome, it is a fantastic browser, makes your puter run twice as fast, I do this almost every day for customers. BTW if you are running windows xp, you have about 2 more years and microsoft will quit giving support, they have quit support on service pack 2 and service pack 3 is not far behind.

I don't know much about computers. But I got a new smart phone that was giving me trouble. They told me it's a computer and needs to be shut off daily. They powered it down, and when restarted, it worked fine.
