Question Onan 7.5JB-3CR - Panel Door

Hi Everyone. This is my first post to this amazing set of forums. I bought a property a while ago that has a non-working Onan 7.5JB-3CR (Spec AD) that I would like to get back up and running. (Especially following the 4 day power outage we just went through.) After finding the Parts Manual and with a little help from a neighbor who is quite a hand when it comes to engines we figured out that it was missing the following:
  • Ignition Coil - Part #166-0346
  • Spark Plug Cables
  • Panel Door - Part #134-1039
The generator has been at least 8 years (maybe 10) since it was running last. So he figured it would be best to replace the Point Set (Part #160-0002). And I'll probably go ahead and order the capacitor/condenser (Part #312-0116) at the same time.

I've decided to try this out instead of buying the ignition coil: http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showth...29944&p=154159 (Thanks Elden!) Just waiting on the resistor from my local NAPA.

Re the panel door, my buddy thought we could come up with something instead of spending the $200+ (when you include shipping) for that part too. Would someone be kind enough to post some detailed photos of the panel (open and shut, preferably with a measuring tape) so I can see the door details and dimensions?

Cheers,
Neil

Welcome to the STAK : the best source of ONAN info anywhere.

If after testing , the coil is bad, Kirk engines sells a twin tower coil for onan & Kohler engines along with a point saver ignition.

Stock Onan coils very seldom go bad, but it is possible.
I always start with cleaning the points, checking gap and making sure the wire to them from the coil is not shorted to ground where it goes through the points box.

Is this a housed JB set?
Not sure what the door is if not.
Your JB is a later model unit being an AD spec. Give us the serial number and we can date it for you & get the factory build sheet for it.
your unit is a 120/240 volt single phase 4 wire re connectible YD gen end . You can download the YD manual from the Stickies at the top of the onan forum.
If you would like the rest of the JB parts , service & operating manuals , get us an e-mail that will take large PDF files and we will hook you up.

Thanks Ed and yellowlister for your replies.

Re the Ignition Coil, I can't test the thing. It's actually missing! Apparently the previous owner had a local company come take it to test it and for whatever reason they never brought it back. Same goes for the spark plug cables and door (all missing.) I wish I had known about the Kirk Engines coil. (Thanks for that Ed.) I would have went for that instead of getting the 2 larger 6v coils and now having to try and make them fit. I should have made my first post to the STAK a little earlier I guess.

And after I made my first post I realised I never explained very well what door it was I was after. It's the one with the "Powerhouse" and "Danger" stickers that covers the carb (like you said yellowlister.) Note: It' NOT the door that << Door ?? is pointing too. I highjacked the image courtesy Old Style's post here.

Full model number is 7.5JB-3CR/6153AD and serial number is D830657527. The factory build sheet would be great. I think I got all the other manuals (967-0223 and 967-0754, plus the YD manual). If there is anything else you think would be great I'd be happy to get them. I'll PM you my email address Ed. Thanks.

Ed, Wouldn't that be a 1983 build date?

Have just contacted srsales. searspartsdirect.com won't ship to Canada. :-( Will try calling Sears Canada Parts instead.

And I've also just registered with Cummins QuickServe Online.
