Default Jelbart Stationary Engine

Picked up this Jelbart stationary engine on Sunday less than 2km from home ,it had been sitting in their garden for nearly 40 years , the fellow had pass on recently and his wife called to see if i was interested in the engine.
He had pulled it apart many years ago and taken the rings out and stored them in his shed they haven't found them yet but are still looking.
the spark plug was left out of it , but i got the piston out and it looks good , not sure what HP it is but it has a 5" bore .

That one is as good as you could ever hope to find, and unusual being a stationary engine, rather than a portable.

Hello all
What an unusual looking engine. The general layout is a far cry from the norm.
It looks to be in great condition for been in the weather for 40 years. Is it dry in Canberra?

Cheers Scott

I have only seen 3 of these wonderful engines and they seem to have a note all of their own. Something that has stuck in my mind is that one of the engines was a true 'stationary engine' (not running) and the other two only ran for about 10 minutes before stopping. All the time the owner was fiddling with this and that and lost the battle.
Still a very desirable engine to have and with the right person at the controls and everything in good condition I'm sure they run very well.

I have seen a couple of them running "very" well, and have had it explained in detail several times how they work, but I swear I think they run on witchcraft !
No one could accuse Jelbart of pirating their design, there isn't anything remotely like them that I am aware of !

Wish I had one, you are very lucky !

Very nice engine that one Brock .
I am not on FB and don't intend to be any time soon so you will have to keep me updated on that .
Ian the are still engine out there but there are a lot of miles between them ,and with the fuel price the way they are it is good to get one close to home .

The lady i got it from call to say she found the piston rings and the were very good , bit of a clean up and now are back in and turning over , i had to make a new gudgeon pin and bush and a new crankcase valve but mostly back together now , but i don't have a carby for it so will have get something sorted before in can try to start it.
Joe
