I always heard these referred to as "Necker Knobs". As in to allow couples to "neck" while cruising. Images of my parents and '50's Chevys come to mind lol.

I have one tractor that used to have a handle but it was torched off.
There is a broken bolt for a steering shaft collar down in the transmission too...
Somebody got bit. Otherwise very nimble tractors with the handle.
