Photo Garhat sideshaft info wanted

I picked this up recently. They called it a 3hp but physically it is more like a 1hp or 1 1/2hp. It is throttle governed. I was curious if anyone has any information on it. All I can find is where it has sold twice at auction and that is it.

There is some kinship with a Sorg engine although the Sorg is totally different in the cylinder set up. But, I'd bet there is some shared engineering.

There is a old thread on here about a sorg engine with pictures. I see there are some similiar features between the two. Thanks for the info.

Craig, I don't know how far back you traced it but I first saw that engine in August of 2002 at the Red Buchanan sale in Centerville Iowa. Then I saw it sell again at the Jim Jorgensen sale in Hampton, Iowa. I know it's sold once or twice since then as well. Maybe somebody familiar with Jim or Red has more information on it. Sorry I don't know anything else about that engine.

The Garhat Motor was sold by and maybe also produced by the Garhat Electrical Company. Attached are ads from the March and April 1915 "Farm Stock and Home" magazine.

After the Jorgensen sale it remained with the same owner until he passed away and I acquired it from the son.

Found out today from a friend that knew the engine well said it was found in rock island in a building by Frank Claeys out of preemption illinois . I guess it was running a pump. Then later Red bucchannan bought it.
