I have been on a similar tour of Mt Wilson observatory. If you are into old engines, old mechanical, and old electrical this is an amazing opportunity.

If you can get there in a 12 hr day, take three days and do it, It is that good.

Frank - We do plan on doing it again at least once next season. We limited it to 20 participants and split it into two groups of 10 so we could get then into some of the smaller spaces where the really neat stuff is.

Just to keep this on topic we did run the 1911 Fairbanks Morse 50 hp. type RE engine coupled to the 40 KW 125 VDC generator.

I've had private guided tours of both Lick & Kitt peak observatories as well as SLAC. All were back in the film camera era, so no digital pics. Will have to dig out my photos some day.
