If it has brushes it likely can run on DC.

Just for a test you can likely run it on 12V (car battery) IF it will run on DC. It will run about 1/2 speed

I would try a 24 V xf and see what V you get under load for a short test
you can drop AC volts with 2 sets of series diodes or zinners [one set each direction parallel]

the less complicated way....
2 amps times 20 volts is 40 watts [way more than 16]
