Default Help planning trip to Coolspring for the 2020 expo

My family are looking at flying into Pittsburgh next June, with a view to attending the expo at Coolspring. Once the show is over, we are looking at having a leisurely drive up to Buffallo to view the Niagra Falls and after that carry on over the border into Canada and onto Toronto.

Does anybody know of any places of interest / collections that we could possibly visit in or around the areas we will be travelling through?

If you are passing thru NJ, I would be glad to show you our engine clubs collection, and possibly fire up our Oil City/South Penn oilfield engine. Any idea when you will be at Coolspring? i usually try to go on friday and leave saturday. Not the best viewing times,as most people bail out by saturday, but I need to meet my dialysis schedual.

The NJAEMC is located off State Rt 206, you can pick it up either at its intersection with I-80, or take a scenic route via state Rt 94. North bound in both cases State 94 can be accssed by the delaware Water Gap, another scenic location in itself. If you travel I-80 east to Rt 206, there is an overlook that gives you a fantastic view of one of natures wonders. The water gap was made by the Delaware River cutting thru a mountain range. Speaking of mountains, it you travel east from Coolspring on I-80, you will pass a sign stating that you are at the highest point on I-80 east of the Mississippi. How cool is that? The view is fantastic. If you read my article in the GEM about the restoration of our OC/SP engine, you will read about the horrowing run I had getting it back home. No worries now, the construction is all done! Getting back to I-80 is a breeze from Sussex County, where our engine club is located. State Rt 15 will take you right to I-80 so you dont have to back track.

Please contact me if you plan to visit, so I can give more detailed info

We're about 175km north west of Niagara if you care to venture that far.
There are also a couple great collections near Niagara and closer to Toronto. Also one on the way to Buffalo from CPM.

That's definitely the place to meet people and see who's along the way.

If you come North to the Canandaigua area, we can get things opened up at the Pageant of Steam show grounds. It would place you around 2 hours from the falls. I plan at being at Coolspring as well. Dave

Rough and Tumble at Kinzers, PA will be on your way, and if you're in CT there's CAMA in Kent and Zagray in Colchester. If you're interested in visiting Zagray you can coordinate with me for a visit since we won't have any shows at that time.

It depends on what (Besides old engines you are into) That trip from Pittsburgh to Coolsprings to Niagara Falls takes you through some very pretty country. (Stay off the interstates and enjoy the ride.)

Your family may want to save a little time for Pittsburg. Take a boat ride on the three rivers, and ride and tour the Duquesne Incline http://www.duquesneincline.org

A little out of the way is the Curtis Museum. Very early airplanes, and motorcycles.
https://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/

If I had a chance to go to England I would want to visit a hardware store just to see what is different, and what is the same. Olean NY is just a bit out of your way and has an amazing hardware store. https://worthwsmithcompany.com/ The first time I stopped there I needed a couple AA batteries and I was there two hours.

For something different, you (and your family) might like the corning glass museum
https://www.cmog.org/
If you go, follow it with Ice cream at Dippity Do Dahs

BTW If your family can't handle 3 days of old engines you can send them about 15 min north to Brookville PA for the Mountain Laurel festival that runs the same time as the show. I can't get enough of old engines so I have never been but here is the web site. https://www.explorejeffersonpa.com/b...-full-swing-2/

I will be showing at Coolsprings.

Another interesting place is Hanford Mills: https://www.hanfordmills.org/
in NY.
They have steam engines and a water wheel that runs original wood working equipment and saw mill.

Take a scenic route to the falls (or at least to I90) and stop at Simpler Times museum just north of Tidioute Pa. Quite a variety of very interesting stuff including some hard to find oil field engines. Might need to make an appointment when the time gets closer. And when you get to Buffalo cross into Canada at the Peace Bridge. Follow the road along the river to the falls which takes you thru lovely residential neighborhoods instead of taking the industrial/congested U.S. side.

My wife and I traveled June this year (1600 miles to Coolspring) and did the Drake/Oil City area and western NY, then Niagara. You will not regret the time and experience.

If possible Rough and Tumble in Kinzers, Pa should be on schedule for next week and you can see the Tandem DA Cooper after seeing the 600 Snow at Coolspring.

Welcome to the USA
