Default Lurking in Western Kentucky (new member)

Hello members. I am a model steam and hit and miss engine enthusiast. Now I am drawn to the full size hit and miss engines.
I want to study and learn from the experienced before buying a
1.5 to 3 horse engine for running at home.

I'll be looking for easy to run, reliable well kept engines and deciding what brands to consider.

Thanks for making a newcomer feel welcome.
Tim

Hercules and Economy engines are plentiful, reliable, have plenty of repo, and original parts available, and are a good looking engine.

Thanks Rick. That’s exactly what I hoped to hear. I’m not looking for rare exotic stuff. The Hercs and Econs had already caught my eye. I want to find one fully restored on a nice truck for show and tell around home. Maybe make ice cream.

Welcome Tim,
I am located in Louisville KY not to far away. I also machine model steam engines and have 8 hit/miss engines that I have restored. I agree that econ/herc engines are good runners and many parts and info is out there, Stover engines are also good runners as well as the associated line of engines and parts for both of them are also plentiful.
Mark.
