Got an elderly Evenwood bandsaw where the top pulley shaft is worn. Apart from getting the shaft milled before fitting new bearings will a Locktite product do. The machine is old only rarely used and doesn`t really justify spending a fortune on. Any advice please. Putting this on this forum as in my opinion the bandsaw is like me very elderly and well used.

Why not replace the shaft?

Appears to be welded to cast ali wheel. Not worth the grief. The roller bearing had collapsed and the shaft is showing a little wear. Due to age of machine not really worth spending a fortune

Green locker for loose fit may make it usable. Several suppliers, among Loctite, sell it. It's for a bearing that's a loose fit on the shaft or the bore. Might be worth a try.

Loctite has several products for things like that. Best to look at the website and compare products. They list how much they will fill in.
I used some on a worn u-joint hole on a drive shaft and it has been holding up well. If it is worn past what the Loctite will take care of. One other cheep dirty trick is to use some shavings like brass or iron and solder the shaft with them mixed in. Not the best fix, but may work. |

Thanks Pat. Is "green locker" the name of the product please as Google doesn`t show it. Or is it a Loctite product.
---------- Post added at 06:14:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:11:09 PM ---------- Thanks Akuna. Looked at the Loctite website they seemed to indicate a "metal filling compound" which would then need turning down. The wear is not that great but just trying to give the old gal a few more years of infrequent use. |

Shaft is steel? or Aluminum? I don't think steel can be welded to aluminum, stuck yes, welded no. Got some pics so we can see what you are looking at?

Shaft is definitely steel and pulley ali. so must be stuck in some way. However think I`ve done deal on another cheap one to save me the hassle. But may still try Loctite.

Need to search more. LOCTITE 660 Retaining Compound could be what you need. They have 2 other products that are similar, one fills more then the other. A seal retainer and some other product. Not sure what the numbers are.
