Default Multiple engines For Sale in the Ads

I know that the number of engines listed For Sale here varies, but it seems like we have a wide variety available right now. The Wanted advertisements are interesting too.

Rumely
Russell
Russell portable
Peerless
Scale Advance Rumely
Nichols & Shepard
Case
Complete Robinson outfit-engine, water wagon, thresher
multiple boilers/stationary, etc

The Want Ads include wheels, flywheels, engines, castings, and more!

Check them out.

Hi Brian,
Thinking of earning money for toys.

I was at a local traction engine club meeting when the vice chairman walked in late. "Sorry I'm late" he announced, "I've been on the dozer all day, because we've a big job on" He was semi-retired from the family muck shifting buisness. "Ah the bank manager will call you sir next time you go in then" some one called out. "Well" replied the vice chairman, "it was actually his idea that we went out and found some work"
Another one of our mates now passed on, who's wit was as sharp as his engine driving.

I'm shocked such a rare engine is for sale. I pray it stays close to it's place of birth, Richmond Indiana (down the street from Gaar-Scott). I've seen this engine a few times but never when I had a camera.

When you see something like that Robinson outfit, it cries out for some local organizations and individuals to pool their resources and keep it in the area! That is something special!
Asking price is $43,750! That is about the starting price of a diesel pick up truck around here. And the truck loses a big chunk of its value the second you leave the dealer's lot! That Robinson outfit is way undervalued!
As they say - go find another one!

The "Last Peerless" is also for sale. I wish it could come back east.

I never thought that Robinson outfit would change hands, maybe the local boys had better get serious and pool their resources if necessary and keep it in the area. Once it's gone its too late. I think I'll go out and buy a few lottery tickets, wish me luck! F.J.W.

Good luck Fwurth. I really hate seeing engines with a good local history leaving. The 22 Avery that was at our show since the 50s sold a couple years ago, and that one leaving was almost as sad as it would have been to see one of my family's engines go.

I don't understand it? There is a very old club, The Pioneer Engineers of Rushville, right where this engine is currently located. To have such a rare piece of Indiana steam history leave the area/State/Country would be a blow to the club. The owners must have fallen on very hard times to sell it....... If I was the club president, I'd try and rally the troops to keep that Robinson local......

That's like the 30-60 & the 25 Fairbanks Morse leaving Wisconsin 30 miles from where they were made. I made an effort to keep both near home.

All,
I'll try to keep this brief and just say Tracy doesn't see the need any longer to have "4" threshing rigs. Its allot to maintain,as well as to store. Any of us in this business knows that having just one engine and thresher is a hand full. Having four complete rigs among various other pieces has proven itself to be just too much. Hopefully someone will get this fine rig and preserve it just as the Porter's have done for a long, long time. Lets just leave it at that. Please call the number provided in the ad with any questions.

Sam

Completely understand. Compared to UK prices this is excellent value for money and if a similar rig was offered in UK I would be tempted but I think something so unique needs to stay in America.

Is this engine the same size as the one sitting outside the museum in Richmond?

I wish I had the money so I could buy the Robinson outfit. Not a Gaar-Scott Tiger, but darn close kin!

I am pretty sure that the one at Wayne County is the next size smaller. (18 hp.?) Its a shame its missing so many parts. Hoping to be there real soon, I'll check.. It's been a while since I was there last..

Any chance of saving/operating the one at the museum? Do you know who is in charge of it at the museum?
Thanks,
Andrew

I last saw the engine at the museum a couple of years ago and yes it is in very poor shape, it has been painted and put on display and is still very interesting as is. Nothing so bad on it that a lot of money and labor couldn't cure. It would require a complete new boiler to start, then alot of castings are cracked from the rust build up under them. The parts that are missing could probably be recast but a lot of work. Theres not many of these left so it's probably well worth the effort. F. J. W.
