I always message the buyer with a tracking number.
I consider it part of the communication process. I HATE when some sellers don't let you know anything....... ![]() ![]()

Been There Done That....
Even with the tracking number automatically uploaded using the on-line labels I still contact the buyers if it looks like it's taking too long for the package to get to them for some reason. Like you said.... it's part of the communication process. The only reason I asked about the tracking number was as I noted with the on-line labels it's uploaded to eBay immediately. Having the number SHOULD Help You with your problem with them, but if it had been uploaded (auto or manually) they would have had the info up front and Should have backed you and told the buyer to give it more time. I understand that can be a bit of a nuisance if you have to drive 10 miles to the P.O. then go back home and print a label and then take it all back to the P.O. but for me with the P.O. & Library being a block apart from each other it's a No-Brainer for me to do it that way. Plus as I said, you get a discount on the Postage by printing the labels on line. Good Luck with it. Hope you get it straightened out with them. ![]()

I personally don't want to see anyone get ripped off as I also have been had by scammers in the past. Most on here weren't aware of any specific issues that others have had, and I'm sure most here feel the same even if they don't know what to say to help. On the incident I had, it still makes me mad as hell but live and learn, I've moved on, of course, if I ever find the low life I may need to appeal to my fellow stakers to help go my bail!

Ebay has been a fine tool for me over the years. I have never been a seller though. It has allowed me to acquire items that would not have been otherwise available to me. I avoided paypal for years until being blocked from bidding on some items if you weren't with paypal. Since joining, paypal has worked 100%. You use the tools you are given. The big negative for me with paypal is that it generally removes the necessity of direct contact between parties. I liked the contact, working out payments, shipping, etc., as it often led to trust and making deals outside ebay.
Only ever had two deals go sour - one of those sellers was a rat, of that I was sure. A third deal went bad, likely because of a post office glitch. That seller was great and we worked out a first class solution. Look, shitty things can happen outside ebay and paypal. Has no one on here had deals go sideways outside? Some antiques/collectables people are slimey bastards and would pry the gold fillings out of their grandma's teeth before the old girl could croak. As for Craig A, aw, the ol' boy can have his sour moments too. He probably had some lutefisk for supper that went south (if it is possible for lutefisk to go any worse that it normally is ![]() ![]() Adios amigos ![]() |

I haven't checked the tracking number on the package I shipped to Dubai for a while now but the last time I did check it still showed it was setting in Chicago 3 months after I shipped it so it likely still does.
Don't know where you shipped your package to, but as I noted before, I found out in that incident of mine that the don't track them once they leave the country (or so they say...... I've had a few packaged go to the UK that shows them all the way through) Something I just picked up yesterday I was glad to have the tracking number shown on eBay as it allowed me to get my item that was setting at the Post Office waiting for me even though they never put a ticket in my P.O. box letting me know it was there. Checked the mail Saturday hoping to have it and found nothing. Logged onto eBay and it showed it as awaiting pickup, but the Post Office was already shut down for the day by then so I had to wait till Tuesday (due to Labor Day Monday) and when I checked Tuesday Still NO Ticket in my box. I went to the window and asked if they had anything for me since the tracking number showed it was there and the went back and found it for me. I am now the happy owner of a 1930s Stover Swartz (Stover Mfg & Engine Co. Freeport IL) Cylinder Sleeve Press (Pat Pend) If not for the tracking number I'd probably still be waiting for it......

Not so much a issue with Ebay. But, I have had plenty of bad experiences with the USPS. I have ordered several things and had them arrive damaged. Including a couple of vintage model train cars to which I watched out the window the mail carrier carelessly throw the package on the porch from her vehicle. That one still pisses me off.
Most recently in a new town and 20 some miles away from my old house I am again having problems with the USPS. I mailed out the rent and thought all was well and good. Then I get a letter saying I will be evicted because I am two months behind. WTF. So I contacted the landlord of the trailer park and explained the problem. But, I am still missing a months rent that just vaporized. Robert |
