Default Magneto Question

Hello, I have a Bosch AB33 mag that is not working. Is there any tests that I can run on it it before I send it out for repair? I have already remagnetized the magnets and cleaned the points. Thanks in advance for any help..........and Thanks Harry

90% of the time on ab33 mags the coils are bad. the insulation on the wire breaks down. then what you get is a internal short which can not be found with an ohm meter. also the magnets will probally need charging. redoing the coil is best left to someone who. repairs mags, because the collector ring has to be pulled. you dont want to break this.their is also a condensor in the coil that needs to be changed. hope this helps.

Did you remove the magnets from the case to charge them? If you did, they probably are compromised, as the magnetism on the AB 33 and 34 mags swop locations when removed. Their original magnetic configuration is thru the thin section of the magnet, and they are always charged on the case. Most of the AB33 and 34's have critical points settings, and the 34's were known for bad coils. The 33's were suseptable to bad condensers. Make sure the case is mounted on a clean metal ground - no paint under the mag-mount! Andrew
