Default How to level a lathe bed

Many years ago a machinist friend chased leveling of a small lathe until it drove him crazy. Eventually it hit him. Being on a wood base everything changed with temperature and humidity. He then mounted it to a thick steel plate which solved it.

Agree with old stuff, shingle mill gave us alignment problems on wood ties ‘till we bolted it down to the concrete floor.
