Default McCormick and Deering Spreader

I hope someone may be able to help date this spreader. Our local Historical Society rescued this spreader recently and we intend to restore it as part of our agricultural equipment collection. We think it is a McCormick and Deering. There is a number stamped on the front wheel hub that looks like 698 S. There is also a McCormick and Deering logo, (the IH surrounded by a C). It has a wooden body, so I believe it predates the all steel body model. We would greatly appreciate any help in identifying this. We found traces of both green and red paint.

Appears to me to be a model 4. The 4A was the steel box version that came after. Check ebay for manuals. Occasionally show uip there. Also check with the Wisconsin Historical Society. They have all of the IHC stuff from the McCormick family.
