Default SHARPLES Separator Co.

There is a Sharples in my area that I could buy but at $1500.00 I need to find out more about these engines. This is a 2-1/2hp fully restored Sharples with battery and coil ignition. Can anyone direct me to pictures of other Sharples engines and also tell me if these are rare engines as I have not seen a Sharples before. Thanks for any info you can come up with.

Was the engine made in West Chester, PA? If so, I would say that they are rare. The only info that I have is from Wendel's big red book. If this is the engine, I can scan it and e-mail it to you.

Yes Mike, it is the Sharples made in PA. I have the BYB but there is not much in there about Sharples.

If you can get pictures, would you send them to me. I was born in West Chester, PA where these engines were made. I am tying to gather information on the engines made in West Chester.

Denis,
GEM volume 21, issue12, page 17; volume 31, issue 8, page 29; and volume 33, issue 11, page 25 have Sharples engines. The last one, Nov., 1998, has some data that says they were made 1916 to 1919. Sizes: 2 1/2, 4 1/2, 6 1/2 & 9 hp. Also a double ignition system, etc.

hope this helps

chuck
