540 degrees sounds like a valve stuck closed...

Pull the side cover off of the side of the block to access the valve adjustment area anthe valve springs and valve stems. You might be able to free it up through there. Bet you it is an exhaust valve.

This manual may be close enough to what you have to help:

Your 10JWC is similar to my PE-95K. It's worth looking through this manual:

Tip o' the hat to Van, Sound & Motor - looking thru the spark plug hole #1 has a valve stuck. Soaking in juice now. Have not had time to pull side cover, soaking fittings now. (May have more valve issues...looks a little rusty in a couple of holes.

Kevin - the books will help 'Big Time'!

Thanks to all!! Hi 5's all around.

Hi, C F,
How've you been doing with your Onan 10JWC-3E?

The owner of a 10JWC-3E has asked my Legion Post to sell/auction it, with proceeds going to the veterans care facility.

Would you mind if I ask you to tell me everything you know...? ;-)

This generator set has been maintained since the early '50's as the back up power source for the veterans care facility, they're replacing it, and would like my post to sell or auction the set.

At our Legion Post we know nothing about the value of a generator set like this, or who may be interested in buying it.

I'd appreciate any guidance & experience you might offer...

One q comes to mind - is this an oil cooled engine...?

Thanks

Jim
