Very interesting, thanks guys. The ďspark saverĒ is this the switch arrangement which only energized the coil when the governor released the push rod/trip rod? Also, I would have thought disposable batteries would be fairly new/expensive back then, how were they mounted to the engine? Was there a factory box to contain them? What about the coil? Where was it mounted? Sorry for all the simple questions, Iím not sure Iíve ever seen a famous in person or if I did I was a little kid and it was just another spiny thing goes BANG every once in a while

Iíve got a little over two weeks left at work then home for a few weeks. Looking forward to some ongoing projects and getting my hands on this one. Iím not sure what Iíll get done but it will be getting a good dose of penetrating oil right away and searching for tags/serial numbers

My Victor uses the remote pot, and according to "Wendel" in his books, the Victor line was intended to be installed on the inside of buildings to comply with US insurance company guidelines about fire risk and required the fuel tank to be mounted outside the building for safety reasons, so I assume they were also intended to have the exhaust plumbed outside for the same reason. That is why the original "Victors" I have seen all use remote tanks unlike the "Famous" engines that were intended for farm or industrial use outside and had the fuel tank in the base and the more usual exhaust elbow and muffler pot.
The battery's were expensive back then, but so was everything else with this new fangled technology but not as expensive as magnetos or DC dynamos which I have been told could cost as much as half the base engine cost. Battery's were no where near that cost and the expense of running the engine could be spread out over the years of the engines life, not all paid for up front.

Scott,

I love the spark saver, its exactly the same as the one on my Victor !
I remember sending photos of my spark saver setup to someone in the US to copy because they had never seen one, was that you (I can't remember who it was) ? If it was you, you have done an excellent job of making the replacement parts .

Not yet! I’ve got about a week left to go at work then heading home. I’m told it’s waiting for me to pick up though.
