Replaced all the fuel line on the 15hq. Also re soldered the wires back onto the regulator resistor.

Next up, tow it to the gas station and fill up the 30 gallon tank.

Finished the temporary exhaust on my 5.0 120v cck. Changed the oil and wired up a temp outlet.

Loaded it to 3kw.. the carb shaft has a good ammount of play.. and I don't think it allowing the gov to work correctly.. as I set the rpm to 1860 no load an it drops to 1740 rpm and 105 volts with the 3 kw load.. but I have a much better carbi want to put on it just need to dunk it in the clean tank and swap them and will do another load test hopefully that fixes it.. also want to pull the heads and check the piston play and cylinder walls and clean the carbon.. for the play the throttle shaft has it must have alot of hours.. hopefully that solves the issue..

I went and got a group 51 ac delco truck battery,, 980 cca .. replaced one corroded battery terminal end and it fires up almost instantly.. Now to wire it to single phase and load test it..

With the new battery it shuts off as well. for some reason it would not with the smaller battery..

I got to use a friends commercial account at the truck parts store.. battery cost me 96 with a 21 core.. retail stores want about 200 or more.. also got a few Baldwin oil filters for 5.06 a piece.

Finally got to use the JB last night as we had a tornado watch, heavy thunderstorms and lost power around 5 PM. Big trees blown down and one must have taken out a transmission line. Used the interlock switch on the panel and the JB fired right up. Used it mostly for the 2 fridges, ceiling fans and fluorescent lights. After about an hour it started to surge as if the governor was sticking. Will need to investigate now that the power is back. Ran for 4 hours but didn't put a large load on it. All my neighbors came over and checked it out and we toasted the memory of Ed Sparks and this forums support.

Gtj811 I would be interested to hear what you find out about your JB governor acting up. MY JB sometimes does the same thing, but usually on startup and until it gets fully warmed up. If I drop a heavy load and retain about a 10 amp load it will "sometimes" hunt for about a minute or so. Other times it will not misbehave. Oil pressure is good and otherwise it behaves per spec.

So I am wondering if I need to tweak the governor speed and/droop adjustment a bit more. I did at onetime have a hunting condition at a 1500 watt load. To cure that, I raised the NL frequency from 60 to 61.5 HZ. I suspect my JB has worn grooves in the flyball governor race. When I refurbished my JB back in 1969, I did not disassemble and inspect the governor area. I did replace valve guides and a couple of valves, and miscellaneous items like points, plugs, brushes, gen end bell bearing, etc. If I had only known then what I have learned from the Stak, I would have investigated a bit more. Oh well.

Dirt in carb or sticky demand reg maybe? I had a hunting condition on my snowblower and generac, both gasoline. I cured it by tweaking the idle and main jets. I didn't let it run a long time to fully investigate the issue before tweaking it.

Not sure how that translates to nat gas.

gtj811...what was your fuel?
