Got the ccka running.. had to clean the fuel pump out.. for some reason onan used reverse torx nuts on the fuel pump.. and the one closest to the fuel tank is half covered by the fuel prime arm.. so I had to split the fuel pump still attached to the block.. what a pain..

Only ran it for 3 min or so with a 15 amp load.. just soooo loud.. first time I have just not wanted to run a onan beause of the noise.. my buddy said u could hear it at the front of those house some 150 feet away.. while it was inside the work shop

Ready to pull my hair out on this 6.5NH-3CR-16004P. Replaced the condenser and still have no spark. Coil tests good. Have around 12v at the points. Have cleaned them multiple times and have seen a spark at the points a couple of times when I didn't get them completely clean. Both plug wires are about the same resistance. The plugs are brand new and by eyeball(machinist by trade) they're gapped right. If they're off, it ain't by much. I've checked for spark at both plugs and get nothing from either one. I haven't checked to see if the points setting is right, but it certainly appears to be.

Been reading through old threads but haven't come across anything yet that I haven't checked.

Clean all the wire leads.. especially the ones at the point box.. and the screw the holds the spring on inside the coil box... I had to do that with the ccka ih the above post to get spark

You lost me at "and the screw the holds the spring on inside the coil box". Did you mean points box? I'll work on it more tomorrow evening. Probably going to end up converting it to an automotive coil so that I can get plug wires at the local parts stores.

I might have found a direct replacement for the condenser in the NAPA catalog. Actually, there are two of them that appear very similar in the pics. Unfortunately, they didn't have either one in stock and the one I ordered won't be here until the end of the week. Oreilly's has the same one that I ordered, but doesn't stock it either.

Umm... You know the two plugs are connected in series, right? (this means one plug wire needs to be connected to its plug - installed in the engine in order to see a spark at the other...)

When you say you "Have around 12v at the points", what does that mean? You should have a voltage that alternates between 12V and 0V as you crank the engine. A 12V test light on the points should blink as the engine is cranked.

Does it?

And what test did you do on the coil to conclude it was good?

Yellowlister- thats a nice looking unit, and yes to bad it 3600 RPM. That looks like the original paint, if so kept in a good place. Not Jersey weather.

its all original.. the carb nuts, points box, and even air cleaner nuts all had the original paint on them.. till I took them apart..

I have it stashed away under my work bench, with a towl over it completely drained an flushed of fuel.. no plans on ever using it.. I did change the oil today and run it for a few min.. than drained all the fuel and blew out the gas tank.. which had fuel left in it when I got it and was badly rusted.. but no leaks...

one day ill put some of that stuff in the fuel tank that fixes rust... forget the name..

It hits 11.9v and then drops back down....and repeats as long as the start button is engaged. I never saw it fall to 0, but was only watching to see if voltage was present. Didn't use a test light since I didn't have it with me. Checked the coil resistance per the service manual. Don't remember the numbers, but both primary and secondary windings were well within spec.

Didn't bother working on it tonight.
