Default Exciting the field/ Flash the field??

Hi Can anyone send me instructions or an explination on how to excite the field / or flash the field on a generator. I have been told that this is what I need to do on my generator as it has been sitting too long and no longer produces current to the receptacals. Is there special equipment I need to get to set up for this?? Any help will be Great Thanks for your consideration Gary

The simplest proceedure is to connect a 12V battery charger accross the brushes. Do not connect through the series winding if you have one. The gernerator will then be polarized like you had it connected. If you need the opposite polarity connect the battery charger iopposite to what you started with.
