Default Olin Question????

As you know I recently purchased a 15HP Titusville Olin and am in the process of restoring it. Couple of questions; First, what was the correct original color scheme??? Balck and silver or red and silver??? Second, this engine appears to have a ported exhaust provision in the valve box, but no ports in the cylinder. Is this normal??? It has the normal intake and exhaust port at the front of the cylinder, then the water jacket going to the valve chest and undernieth the cylinder is another cast jacket that goes into the exhaust portion of the valve chest. However, there is no porting in the cylinder???? Just curious, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Drew

That is exactly what I thought, but I have a buddy that said they were "Supposed" to be red and silver. Thanks again, Drew

When i got my 15hp Olin going a few years ago the exhaust ports in the cylinder were completly plugged with carbon. You couldn't even tell they were there till a friend, who also has one of these engines told me they had to be there. After close examination i found them. It took a chisel and hammer to open them up. You may have a similar situation. Also my Olin is dark green. Cause thats what i painted it.

You and your friend were correct. My Olin was the same way, you couldn't even see the ports. Measured back the approximate distance in the cylinder and started very light tapping with the back of a ballpeen hammer. Found a soft spot and low and behold that was the port. Thanks again, so very much for your help. Drew
