Question Military 3kw 4A032 Engine Question..

Guy's,

My 3kw Military Genset would not start for me last night. After some trouble shooting, I think it is the fuel pump, When I disconnect the fuel line from the Output of the pump and prime with the lever, I get nothing,, I even hooked up an external fuel tank and did a gravity feed into the fuel pump,, still nothing, even when I pump the primer. also,, are these fuel pumps similiar to a fuel pump on a Chevy V8 ?? reason I ask that,, is I think I smell fuel on the oil dipstick, and I remember a 1979 Chevy Truck that I owned had the fuel pump go out on it and fuel leaked into the Engine Block into the oil.

thnx!

Fred:

You might as well assume that the diaphragm of the pump is leaking and has contaminated the engine oil.

Most pumps (if you can't find a new one or convert to gravity feed) can be disassembled and, if the material is at hand, a new diaphragm can be made.

Take care - Elden

I had problems with the fuel pump on the same type of genset the fire dept has. The valves were stuck in it. You might check out the fuel pump rebuild kit Kohler offers in their parts system. I have found it will rebuild many of these small fuel pumps.
