Photo Briggs/Sears washer motor - What is it?

Picked this up last week. I am sure it is really a Briggs but I don't know much about them. What model is it, what should it have for a gas tank, was there a kick start on it originally? I am surprised by the stamped metal base & the big crank case breather.

I would say most likely an early Briggs WMB, and was probably on a washing machine. My 2 cents.

I concur, a WMB. Post the type number as I can I.D. for sure from the parts books I have. I have one just like it with the same exhaust manifold and LITTLE VACU-JET carb with no provision for an air cleaner.

Quick way of identifiying. If the spark plug is verticle, in the top centre of the head, its a WMB.
if the spark plug is horizontal, in the edge of the head, just over the carburator, its a WM

Except I've had a WMB with the horizontal spark plug.

The head has been changed or the data tag is not the original to the engine.
