Default My 2016 Road trip to Pickup a Wolseley, Stover, Villiers, Hamworthy & McDonald

Hi Fellow restorers,

Over the the last 6 months I purchased a couple of engines. One on Gumtree and one on ebay. Both were pickup only and both were interstate. So I worked out when I would go and jumped in my little truck and started my 2016 road trip. The idea was to pickup 2 engines but I came back with 4.

Day 1 Ipswich QLD to Tarro NSW
Day 2 Tarro NSW to Tomerong NSW then back up to Cessnock NSW.
Day 3 Cessnock NSW to Inverell NSW
Day 4 Inverell NSW to Ipswich QLD.
About 2700km round trip.

On Day 2 I picked up a Wolseley Style 1 complete un-restored from Tomerong (near Jervis Bay) and as luck would have it the fellow had another interesting engine he was offering for a reasonable price. A W-X11 Villiers Hopper cooled 2 stroke running a Hamworthy 300 psi air compressor on an original Hamworthy cast iron base, very nice!

On Day 3 I picked up a fully restored 2hp Cooper branded Stover on a very nice transport plus a restored IHC corn grinder and a Bagshaw elevator.

On Day 4 I decided to drop in on a fellow I'd bought from previously who mentioned he had a McDonald C in pieces that I might be interested in. It turned out to be a very early Type C Engine No. 284 from 1921. As I say every year, that will do, no more buying engines.

A week after I get home and a friend makes me an offer I just couldn't refuse and now I have a fully restored 8hp Mars diesel engine. That's it, no more!!

Pictures to follow when I have my shed rearranged to fit the five engines in.

Hello all
What a great story.
It goes to show, if your willing to do the miles you will get results collecting old engines and stuff.
It's also the same old story when you go on a road trip. Go to pick one up and land home with 5.

Cheers scott

You are hopefully organised now! can you post a photo or two of the 8HP Mars, please. I have one that I restored but have never seen another.
Thanks, Ian
