Here's an even earlier report from 1877, much more detailed info of the individual builders, also shows the level of quality on the world market for some of the plough makers. https://books.google.ca/books?id=zHR...epage&q&f=true. On page 160 is mention of A.Champions steam threshing engine built in Arkona Ontario. https://books.google.ca/books?id=zHR...epage&q&f=true

Somewhere here I have a copy of "Harvest Triumphant" on the Massey companies. It mentions the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1893. Massey-Harris and Sawyer & Massey must have had a joint booth, It mentions M-H sending a binder and other equipment and S&M sending a traction engine and threshers. All of it was done up to the nines with gold trim! It would be nice to see pictures of. I have seen pictures of the John Abell display and they had a compound traction engine done up like a princess!

Wentworth Engine and Implement co of Hamilton Ont were making ploughs in 1879. They built the Beckett steam engines. Haggert Bros of Brampton were making ploughs in the 1850's. Green Bro's/Waterford agricultural works were making ploughs in the mid 1840's, they were one of the first large scale ag manufacturers

The Ancaster, Ontario Fall Fair is going to have a special feature on early plough and farm implement companies for its Canada 150 show in September. There have what is thought to be an Ancaster-built plough.

I wonder who built the first plough in Ontario? Here’s a list of some of the first organized fairs, all had ploughing as major competitions...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provin...of_Canada_West

Gentleman,
I have a file cabinet of research notes one of my brothers did on early Ontario agricultural foundries. You are welcome to go through his notes but they must stay here. I can't loan them out. I also have a fair selection of Farmer's Advocate magazines which will have many ads for older plough makers. I think University of Guelph Archives will have the Farmer's Advocates too.

Does anybody know if the Waterloo Manufacturing Company sold the Rock Island walking plows and smaller implements in Ontario/Canada? or did they just sell the tractors for Rock Island in Ontario/Canada?
