Hello Billy,
Received the exciter schematic and thank you ever so much.I appreciate you taking the time to help, and believe me, it will help immensely.I have tried to purchase the Onan factory manual for the genny end,but so far,all I can find is the manual for the 2 cyl. diesel.Any other genny info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Bobby B.

Are you sure that your Genend has brushes? Most of the DJx Series units
are equipped with Onan YD Genends, and these are brushless.

Hello Bruce,
Yes, indeed it has brushes.Pulled both bakelite brusholders off and ovalled out the center of the brushboxes to accept Chevy alternator brush springs. My brush springs were phosphor-bronze, had been hot at some point, and were soft as wet noodles.Made up a couple of brushes as well, and assumed this was my problem. It wasn't the only problem, since I still have no volts. Haven't had a chance to get back at it yet,to check my exciter wiring against the schematic Billy Shafer so kindly supplied since the wife has me installing an air conditioner.Next is the roto-tiller, then hopefully,I'll get back at the Onan. Bobby b.
