Default 27th Annual Steam Threshing Days at Heritage Park, Forest City, Iowa

It is only two and a half months away until the 27th Annual Steam Threshing Days at Heritage Park, Forest City, Iowa. I know I am looking forward to seeing the show and the latest addition, Jerred Ruble’s 40 Gaar Scott. Who else plans to attend?

I wonder if Jerred and the rest of restoration / re-boiler crew will have a presentation one evening during the show detailing the project? How about it guys? Maybe with a little encouragement the presentation can be augmented with a Gaar Scott history lesson.

Heard rumor that the Swanz's will be there also!

So how about it, how many Staker's are making the big unveiling of the Big 40 Gaar-Scott!

I've got my airline ticket bought for the formal event for the 40hp Gaar Scott. I saw it running (actually rode on it as a boy) in an earlier life, so I'd like to see her born again, in my adult life!
Gary

PS: Actually, I just got off of the phone about 20 minutes ago, talking to Mike Tyler and he's planning on driving out.

This was that last day she ran in September of 1956.

This was her and me in 1958.

I'd love to come out there again. I really liked the show last yr., with the scale models, and the "40" motor running.
If ya like thrashin', then it's for sure the show you wanna go to. There were 8 run by steam, 2 by gas, 1 by horse power, and a clover huller run by steam, all running at the same time. Quite an impressive sight.
Then theres a good bit of plowing done too. And a good sawmill setup, corn shelling, and a lot of acticvities all day to keep you busy.
Then there's good food too, like you expect at any show. And the grounds are as nice as any, anywhere, too.

David,

aw man, since you skipped NTA this year, why don't you and the Mrs.'s come on out. You know you had a great time and I heard rumor that Mike McKnight, Rev. Jim Jake, Gary Yaeger, Chaddy Atteberry, Dan Donaldson, John & Dalene Deck...and I'm sure there are others I'm missing this morning that are planning to make the trek. My point, come on out and play with us. It's sure to be a great show!

Lawrence,
If ya can get Mike, JJ, and Gary to bring their musical instruments-- and use them, I mught just show up with a washboard, or some spoons.
I have a friend thats pretty interested in seeing the 40 in action, so it may be that we can get together on coming out.

David I expect to see you at Forest City this year. I know the rye has been cut. Mike and JJ cant sing or dance with out that special lube oil. Just dont ask Lawrence to dance or sing. We had to promise the people in Oklahoma that he would not do that again. We really enjoyed seeing you both at the show. It will be a good way to finish the year with one of the best small shows in the nation.

Lot's of folks are planning to come see the Big 40 Gaar strut her stuff. Like John alluded to, Forrest City is the best "little" show out there....amongst others I'm sure. But in all seriousness, this is the year to make. We have a lot of "steam dignitaries" coming, so besides the Big 40, you get a chance to meet some of these real neat steam men and get a chance to visit with them. I'm looking so forward to this years show I can hardly stand waiting for it to come...which will most likely be here quicker than I think!

David,

I sure hope you and the Mrs.'s can make it out yet another year. It would be great to see both of you again. I told Kara of the possibility of you folks coming and she lit up. I don't think it was your name that did it though.

Been there twice. I think I could attend the show.
Last time I was running a 18 hp Greyhound on cold freezing days.

Gary & others,

I thought I would post a few "newer" photos of the Big "40" running from this past weekend. Photos #1 & #2 just jumped out at me. I'm sure my friend Mike McKnight and others will agree. Photo #3, you can see a very proud owner, Jerred Ruble with a big ol' on his face. Photo #4 is of Jerred and myself...very satisfied with a job well done. Enjoy everyone and come out this fall to see the ol' girl in action!

Lawrence,
The other 40 is supposed to be running at the WDM threshing days at Yorkton, Saskatchewan on July 30, Aug. 1 & 2! Not sure if she will be sawing, ploughing or both over that weekend?
Great pictures!

I've heard they just use the "other" 40 for sawing, only....could someone that's been there comment? I think they can only carry 100#-which on a compound I don't think would do much plowing! Just glad it's still running, though!
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
You are probably right. Last time I saw it, it was on the saw mill at 100#. It hummed along pretty well actually. They were ploughing with a big Geiser and a Waterloo that year!

Besides Dan, who else is planning to attend the show this fall? Below is a list of folks that have told me that they are planning to be there.

Jim Jake Templin
Mike McKnight
Chaddy Attaberry
Gary Yaeger
Roger Byrne
John Titterington
John & Dalene Deck
Bob Lange
David Fie

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. I am still on my first cup of coffee, so the ol' brain cells aren't quite charged up yet. I'll add names as I remember them.

So who else's name can I add to the list?

I might be there, if all goes well. Plus, I need my Gaar fix.
I want to see the 40 in her new restoration clothes and I think I've developed "Mighty Gaar" withdrawls from not seeing the ole girl for awhile.

Lawrence;
Will John T. be bringing his steam engine to the show?
