Someone said he had an Allis Chalmers flywheel engine. Did Allis Chalmers make a flywheel engine?

Yes, they are very large, up to 2000 hp I believe. Used in the steel industry.

They show one or two in the big yellow book if I am not mistaken.

If you go to the riverwalk section of Pittsburgh you can see one there. Also, if I am not mistaken there is one at the Pawnee, OK showgrounds. Both of these are steam, however.

There is one at Mt pleasant Iowa also. Steam engine though.

allis chalmers did not manufacture a gasoline flywheel engine. although they did manufacture a steam engine with the corliss valving. you can see a nice example of one of those at rollag.

however the company did make parts and pieces for just about everything else. the farm equipment was just a sliver of the pie. they made generators such as the ones in the hoover dam, the made things for the outer space program also home appliances. allis was definately a huge huge company. according to my books they also made welding rods, and had a clothing line for the company store in the 20's
