Default onan 4.0cck-3CR/1R resurrection and questions

SERIAL# 0475937973

hey guys! -my, what a TOUGH engine..

well this story starts back in the 70's there was a military base about a 1/4 mile from my house that closed down.. every building had a backup gen-set, and when the base was vacated everything was left.. well fast forward to 2014 and one of the buildings was turned over to the local police for a new sub-station, and i was able to acquire the gen fron the building.. the dowside- every spring the building goes underwater for 2-10 days.. so when i got it, I figured it was a lost cause.. the cylenders were packed full of mud, and the valves were all stuck..
so i pulled the heads, and cleaned it all up, and got it all freed up, put oil in it, and jumped the starter and it turned, but no fire.. and not enough to power to turn it over with plugs in it.. I cleaned the brushes, and found the "rope start" function, and with some ether it FIRED UP!!! rebuilt the carb and it now runs on its own and makes power!

now the issues- when it had water in it, it cracked the oil pan.. so it leaks out about a quart of oil every 5min.. where can i find a replacement? and will any other pans work, or just the cck pans?

also, the control board is fried.. the start circuit does not work, and there is components missing from the circuit board.. i will not need the charging circuit in the applcation I'm going to be using it in, so is there a cheaper/easier way to fix this other then the $150 flight systems board, or is that my best bet?
thanks for any help you guys can provide! -Joshua

You should be able to have the pan repaired. They do show up on ebay at times. There is a conversion kit for the board. We can send you the print for it. You can make your own.

That would be MUCH appreciated! the email is Jdknech@yahoo.com
and I was not sure if the pan could be fixed being that it is cast.. but I will run it by the local welding shop and see what they can do with it.. thanks again! -Joshua

Wow! Amazing how many of the old Onan gen sets that took a beating and look like they were in a train wreck in hell seem to fire up with some TLC. In your case were the cylinders were packed with mud and valves stuck fired up with a little elbow grease. I wonder if any of today's Chinese made generators would fire up after going through that same torture that your gen set went through.... let me take a guess..... I think my answer is NO.

I have found that older stuff was built to a spec that we seem to have lost in todays world.. most people want to throw out the old, and in with the new... but NOT THIS GUY! lol I would rather have one piece of machinery that lasts many years that i can maintain, then something that is "sealed" for life.. because it just doesn't last.. unfortunatly quality went out the door for quantity

At one time I had five of the Chinese gensets in my shop. All with less than 50 hours on them. Two with less 5 hours. All beyond repair.
