Default Hello from Western Maine

Wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself. I've been curious about older hit & miss engines since I went to my first fair many years ago. Now that I'm retired I can let my curiosity run wild. Yesterday I purchased my first engine. It's a Fairbanks Morse type Z style C. 6HP @600rpm 7HP @ 700rpm. It was used for sawing firewood. Last ran, this past fall. I do have one question I'm sure most of you know the answer. Where is the serial number located? I'd like to find it so I can get it dated. I was told by the previous owner it may be 1943.
Thanks and hello again.

Welcome to the stak. The serial number is on a tag riveted to water hopper. Some times it is stamped on a flat buss on the water hopper. Probly other places but do not know them. Bill K

Old Proff, thanks for the info. I couldn't find a brass tag, maybe somewhere on the hopper I'll find it etched.

WildIrishman, I got a chance to follow your link to MAPA pictures. Besides the local fairs, are there any shows here in Maine?
