Default Wheel Horse Work Horse 800 PTO Clutch

Attention all WH experts...

I've got an electric PTO clutch off of a Work Horse 800 that just quit. I know it's the clutch as there's power to the leads; the switch tests fine.

Anyone out there in Smokstak land ever disassemble one of these or know of someone who may wish to part with a functioning one? The tractor belongs to a good friend of mine who received it when his Dad passed away. Sentimental ties demand that I get this up and running...

Thanks in advance!

Some of them will come apart, if they are the type that uses snap rings to hold the bearings in place. Many however, have the bearings staked into the housing..... my one attempt to replace the bearings in such a clutch did not fare well...

I'm sure you've already checked, but some clutches are "hot" all of the time. The pto switch, combined with various safety switches, completes the ground, allowing the clutch to engage. If the field coil is in fact bad, I seriously doubt that any replacement coils are available. I see where complete new clutches are also unavailable, with the last known price has them going over $500.00.

I think that some of those tractors may have had a manual PTO setup. I'm not sure, but perhaps it may be an option if a used clutch cannot be located.

If you have to replace the clutch, here are a couple that are considerably less than $500. Fit on a 1" shaft, 12VDC.

the coil is aluminum wire wound, the leads or a strand in the winding has worn thru,if you look close you will find the break, you can unwind the coil a bit to get to the break or just make a cheap wood jig to wind a new col out of copper 18 gauge wire that they use for magnets and armatures it will cost you around 50.00 bucks
