Default Hello from New York

Hi all,

I'm a new member from NY and just wanted to say hello before I start bugging you folks with questions. I have been reading a lot of the threads as a guest and figured I should join up. So, a little about moi:

I like all sorts of equipment, machines, old iron, new iron, etc. I was a member of HCEA (Historic Construction Equipment Assoc) for a number of years and attended a few shows but I have since let my membership slip. I don't own any of the really big "toys" due to the usual factors of cost, maintenance, storage, transportation, etc. so instead I've been focusing on the model engineering stuff. Also enjoy seeing other peoples' videos/pictures of their restoration/building. Plus, my favorite times as a kid were in my sandbox as well as building things with Legos so I guess I haven't totally out-grown that. I look forward to getting some expert advise, but I will post my questions soon and hopefully in the right place.

Regards,
Brian

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

IronworkerFXR (sorry don't know your real name): I checked out that link and when nice weather comes around again I will definitely try to make a show. Thanks for the info.

Hello, Please check out our annual show on June 14-15 (listed on Smokstak) in Rhinebeck, NY. That is perhaps an hour's drive north on route 9; or you may choose to travel the NY Thru-way.

Thanks for the greetings guys.

@Reed: I've been to a couple of air shows in or about Rhinebeck but I didn't know of a old iron type show. I will definitely try to make it in June. Thanks for the heads-up.

We've been showing at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds since 1990. Several years ago we joined forces with several chapters of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America and they have hosted 5, I think, "Grand National" shows there. Crowds are excellent. Cycles and machinery are segregated but in easy access of each other.

@Reed: Now that you mention the fairgrounds does your group also show up at the fair in August/Sept (I forget the exact dates)?

If so I probably have seen some of your groups equipment. I remember some water pumps, stone crusher and a very scary shingle making demo with old equipment. I think there was a traction engine as well but she wasn't running for some reason.

I go to the Rhinebeck show too. That is where I gained my interest in these old engines. I haven't gone to the fair, but that sounds like their equipment and is right around that date.

Welcome to the Stak!
