Default Hello from the Kansas City Area

I've always enjoyed old tractors, steam engines and the like. My wife and I have visited the Lathrop, MO Tractor Show for years.

This past weekend, an exhibitor suggested I join this forum to learn about an old Maytag engine I snagged this past summer. I was considering giving it to one of the exhibitors (I only gave $20 for the engine) but my grandson (almost 7) so enjoyed the engines and tractors I decided to try to get the the 'ol girl running. If successful (and if the loss of blood is not too great), perhaps we'll mount it up and restore it.

With my two left hands, it's going to be a challenge. But I expect the time we share working on this engine will make those few scuffed knuckles worth the effort.

Bob

Bob:

Welcome to the land of the skinned knuckles, smoke and "stack music".

Be careful and have fun!

I saw the Maytag dragon puffing exhaust out its nostrils last weekend. I think that would be irresistible to most kids. Go for it. Welcome.

Elden & Patrick,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to getting our old engine going. I'll start with a serial number when I get home tomorrow. I'll post a few photos too.

DustyBar,
My grandson, Kylar, hung on that dragon! Covered his face and let it smoke him. He loved it.

We (my wife, Kylar's mom and her husband) came up to Lathrop on Friday evening and watched the draft horse teams pull....we love to watch them. Did you folks see the horses pull?
