Default Oliver OC3 repower

Hello all,

Starting my new project. Make it work now, paint in the winter. In the shop.

The motor is just sitting on it now. Will be moved back about 18 inches, and the tank will be lowered 5 inches or removed.

The original Hercules's crankshaft walked right through the thrust bearing and into the block. Junk.

The new motor runs currently.

Thanks for looking and will update as I go.

Does the output shaft on the V4 turn the correct way? Some of those clutch and gear box units reverse the rotation to mimic tractor PTO so the engine replaces a tractor PTO on equipment. Just a thought so you don't end up going backwards when you want to go forward.

Yes, the gear reduction is a 2 to 1 and it does goes the opposite direction, however, I took that off and the straight clutch housing from the Hercules bolts right up. Will need to make one of the clutch setups work. Not sure yet, which will be the easier. I will post picture of the Hercules clutch housing when I a chance.

Thanks,

This is the new (Hercules) clutch housing setup vs the gear reduction (Wisconsin). The Wisconsin is a over-center and the Hercules is a push to release style.

Either one will be with a hand lever. I had that setup on my old Allis HD10 and liked it a lot.

1949 vintage VP4. Yes, the big dog. It has a mag, but someone added an electric stater, so that was nice.

If you are going to repower it, why don't you use a better engine than the V-4 Wisconsin. Like a 4 cylinder CASE gas off a swather or a 108 Perkins Diesel.

Having owned 8-10 of these I have seen many different power units including and early Volvo and a Mustang II OHC 4 Cyl. They all work because the Trans is separate from the engine. I just wonder how to hook the Wis. Clutch to the Oliver input. Good luck on your conversion and keep the Pictures coming as you move forward. Ed B

First, because I have it. And it runs. And its air cooled. Simplify everything.

I have a OC4 that has a good engine and is complete that matches my Super 55, that I plan on making a small dozer out of. This OC3 will be for pulling my Adam #4 grader.

Second, the original OC3 bell bolts right up to the Wisconsin. Just need to figure out the internals. And then a driveshaft, jack-shaft or chain drive.

Thanks,
