Default Gov. bracket question

Would a 3 horse FM gov. bracket fit a 2 horse FM dishpan? and would some parts like the big gear and shaft inerchange with this bracket?
Just wondering cuz the pot metal one of mine broke, and i honestly didnt do anything to it, just broke, maybee it got oil soaked?

Default Re: Gov. bracket question

First off...NO! The three horse will not interchange with the 1 1/2 and 2 horse engines...The three & six horse brackets are larger...Secondly, the pot metal used to make these brackets is VERY fragile..You have to be super careful or they will come apart in your hands..(Well...Almost!). But you can't beat on them or apply any leverage or they will crack between the governor & the camshaft...I have repaired one using epoxy and drilling lengthwise through the metal and installing a couple of long screws...It has held OK for about 5 years now, but I really can't recomend this type of repair "cause if it fails, the engine will surely run away, REAL QUICK!!! So do what you feel comfortable with...The only recomended repair is to find another bracket.
