Photo Is This A Rare Bird?

This vert was in the field on the back row Thursday. Looked to be complete except ignitor changed to SP and pickup contact added to cam lever that formally operated the ignitor

Notice the battery box with old dry cells and wooden wheels with metal bands on cart.

I was told it came from Kings Mountain NC, almost in my back yard

A sale was pending when I had to leave. Big bucks, VERY BIG BUCKS

Ever see one like it?

I saw it. The man there with it said that there was a $6000 offer at that time. Whether it sold and how much, I don't know.

That appears to be the Scott & Ewing . I heard it sold for $10,000.

To answer the question, yes it is an extremely rare bird. I think that one makes like 8 or 10 counting a couple of Althaus & Ewing engines which pre-date the Scott & Ewing. We were told Thursday morning by the gentleman that it was on hold for 10k. Later in the show we heard they decided to take it home because it was worth a lot more money than they ever imagined. Who knows?

I also saw this engine at Portland and talked with the guy, it seemed to me that he was kind of giving everbody a big line, everyone that went over there got a differeent story.
