The Chief is mentioned in "Vintage Garden Tractors" by Dave Baas. It was manufactured by The Great Lakes Tractor Co., Rock Creek, Ohio. It was offered in two models in 1949, one with a 1.5 HP engine the other with a 2.5 HP. Three models were offered in 1952 with 2 or 3 HP including a one wheel version. A full range of implements and attachments were available according to the book.

I also found reference to Junior, Economy Chief and Big Chief models in my 1951-52 Red Tractor Book. Looks like the Junior (one wheel model) used a Kohler K7-2 engine; the Economy Chief either a Briggs & Stratton NP, or Kohler K7-2; and the Big Chief used a Briggs & Stratton NPR6, Kohler K7-2 or K12-2. Appears the business relocated to Cleveland, Ohio by the time the Red Tractor Book was printed.
