Photo Barnes Steam and Power Show, Belgrade, Montana

I'd been asked if the Barnes' were having a steam show this year and I just parted with Lance Barnes on the phone about 20 minutes ago. They ARE having their show, which must be about the 34th or 35th annual show. It is one of the only places you will see a steam powered 10-Stamp stamp mill in operation. They always thresh, plow, fire that obnoxious Broderick Brothers boiler that powers the 700hp Ingersol-Sargent air compressor that pumps air for the pneumatic starting of that two cylinder Fairbanks-Morse diesel oilfield engine. They also have two steam driven sawmills in operation. It will be August 25,26 & 27th. Mike and I plan to attend on Saturday, if adoption plans don't change steam plans.

Gary, I'm figuring on being there... maybe my wife too... Suppose there might be something a "willing newbie" might find to do?

Mike,
They keep things busy there. It is NOT a smoker or a polisher's show.

John,
Bring some gloves, a cap (preferrably polka dot, and I may have an extra) and some ambition, and they'll put you to work!

Maybe we ought to have something for SmokStakers going on like the big shows do????? Any others Stak-ers planning to attend? Craig???? You are half way there at Crosby, but I don't know what you'd do for a month?

Beth, would you want to organize a Reeves - Case bash? Their 32 cc Canadian Special doesn't have wheels, so it would have to be a belt competition. I guess we don't want to get too many things happening or we may have to "float a loan?"

Mike,
One of the main things that happens here about twice a day is cutting up the firewood consumed by the engines with Monte, the 9hp Case and the buzz saw.

Jeff,
Mike Mcknight asked me that question about 6 months ago. I don't know the brand name, but I will do my best to find out when there. I have never seen it run, as it was onetime piped to the little Case and had a tiny belt driven air compressor there with it. I guess they originally tried to power the compressor to start the Fairbanks, but the whole system was under specs a little.

Mike actually saw less of the engine and asked the question. This photo shows whatever it is much better and I will find out, Jeff.

We'll both have gloves... and maybe even a cap. Kate just wishes we'd have the horses there to haul bundles and water.. but then, she hasn't been around steam much..yet..
I'm all for some sort of staker's get together...maybe some serenading after it cools down a bit, by local (and not so local) musicians too??
