Default 45 HP Holt Engine

This is my first post. Acquired a 45 HP Holt that has flywheels at both ends of the crank and has a sprocket for power-take-off; I understand it came off a combine. Complete with mag and all the primeing cups and compression release valves. Don't know where to go to get info on the engine. Looked on the web and etc. but was unable to find where information on the year and possibly an operators manual might be found. So I decided to bother you folks with my questions. The tag on the engine says No. 20192.30048 Type H HP 45 RPM 600.

My eldest son and I have numerous hit and miss engines. This is the first multi cylinder engine. It was given to my eldest so the price is right. Pulled #4 head off and found the intake valve was badly rusted and both valve seats were badly eroded. Yesterday the intake valve was built up and turned. A #30 degree cutter was made to fix the seats. All that went well. No longer any wory about fixing the other three heads. However the piston in that cylinder, as you would guess. was stuck. Today the barrel was slowly heated and the piston iced and a big billet of wood was used to force the piston by use of the head studs. That bore and piston will probably be O.K.. Hopeing for luck with the other three. If anyone can direct me to year of manufacture and a reprint of an owner/operator manual I would be most indebted.

Oldsalt,
Here are a couple of places to look. There is a Caterpillar Muesum at the Brooks Oregon show grounds, with people that can help. You may also want to join the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club's discussion group. There are a couple of collectors in CA that have information on these engines. One's sign on name is Old Magnet and the other Willie. I think Willie has a couple of combines that would have used these motors. The address to the front page is www.acmoc.org. Hope this helps
Terry
