Default Rock Island model 70 tractor winch, odd ad

I got an interesting ad in the mail today and when I started looking closely at it I started to wonder just what I was looking at.

Now, I had thought the model 70 Heider tractor winch was just a tractor mounted winch like pictured in the may 94 AP (link to a copy on Heidertractors http://www.heidertractors.com/Antiqu.../Page26web.jpg showing it).

But the ad I have is actually a bit later, Feb 1928. Looking at the ad, the tractor shown has a lot of similarities to a normal heider, but also some things leap out at me as being off.

the wording on it is Rock Island Model 70 with Rock Island Logo's on the fenders.

What it most reminds me of is a drawing from R.B.Gray's "The Agricultural Tractor" of the supposed Heider 18-35 based on the Heider Friction drive and the Heider 1922 patent (NOT the Rock Island 18-35 F). Wendell makes brief mention of it, mentioning perhaps very limited production pre~1929.

From Gray (sorry, but its the only image of the 18-35 I have seen)

So, am I just wishful thinking that this beast is something a bit different? or is it just a heavily modified heider? Is the little drawing of the tractor at the bottom artistic license or is it close to the real tractor? Or did they perhaps "Borrow" a tractor for the shoot?

holy margin kill, sorry if they are way oversized, I was thinking they autosized here.

Craig here: Hey Paul.......this site won't resize linked images. I can save them and add them as attachments for you if John agrees.......or whoever is running that site.......
