Default Dating Century Repulsion-Start Motors

Hi Guys
I have been lucky recently with finding a few repulsion start induction run motors ranging from 1/2hp to 5hp which I find fascinating. RS motors are pretty rare here in the UK - apart from a few Century and Wagner units that were mostly supplied with imported machinery they never really made an appearance because AFAIK nobody over here manufactured them.

Anyhow one of these new arrivals is a 5hp 200/400V Century that drives a British-made Rockingham organ blower. This company (like Spencer Turbine in the USA) sometimes fitted Century motors for use on single phase supplies, although for 3-phase and DC supplies they installed UK-made motors. I would like to date the blower installation, so I was wondering if anybody had any data that would allow the this to be worked out from the serial number or constructional features of the motor? If so I will check all the motors for their numbers and take some pictures, although it is the 5hp that is of most interest. The latest patent date on the plate is 1915 but the plant is probably 1920s.

The motor is almost in working order - apart from needing a quick skim on the commutator which is quite worn with the micas projecting - it runs fine and has very good insulation.

Thanks in advance for any info...

I've had a look at the blower motor and confirmed the serial number as 739641. It's built on an RS15 frame for 200/400V 50Hz, 5hp at 1460rpm.

Maybe someone out there has some old factory records or something? It would be good to hear from amyone with a similar Century RS motor where you know the manufacture date from some other source and the serial number for comparison.

I'd be interested as well, I have a smaller Century repulsion start motor that looks very similar!
