Default Caterpillar D2 Fuel Pressure

hi guys i am working on a d2 3j i have had it for a wile and have done alot of work around my farm with it. the problum i have with it is when it idling the fuel pressure is hunting really bad witch is making the engine hunt i can't remember what the pressuer differance is but its a fare bit. so i am asking all you guys for advice on what i should be looking for so i can fix the problum. thanks cam

Check the fuel supply pump there is a check valve in it that could have trash under it. the valve and spring could need replaced. if the pump seals are bad they usually will leak fuel at the weep line on the fuel filter housing.
if you have a parts book it will show detailed pic. of all this..

I'm thinking the fuel "hunting" problem is caused by the engine hunting, not the other way around. I need to see which governor the 3J engine had, I will write again.
