Default Eclipse Zephyr reel-type push mower

Hello Smokstak people. I am new to this forum, and look forward to participating in it. To start out... I just acquired an Eclipse Zephyr reel-type mower. What a BLAST from the past! Anyway, my 14 year old son is very interested in "how things work", and I woukld like to use this old mower as a restoration project. So, we are looking for any info about this mower... sources for parts, manuals, history, maintenance suggestions... anything! I didn't see a forum that seemed specific to this category of machinery, so I figured I would start on the welcome forum! Looking forward to comments from all interested readers. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any pictures? I have a Eclipse push mower from the 50's, but know nothing about it. Would like to find some literature, model name and #, etc.

Welcome to the stak. This weekend I bought a Belknap H&M push reel mower. I am going to clean it up some and keep it on my trailer with my engines when I take them to shows. There are lots of different threads to post on if you looking for information. something like this mower. Go to Farm + Industral & collectables. go down 4 or 5 lines right underclassified ads click on new thread. then write your question. Bill K

ok, I put an ad it there. I thought mentioning it as part of a conversational thread would be beneficial, that's why I brought it up. I apologize for the inconvenience.

dajawho,
Eclipse Zephyr's were built from 1937 thru 1941, no production during the War years, then 1945 till the mid 50's. Does yours have hubcaps or cast wheels with "Zephyr" cast on them?

handdsaw,
Your mowers are from left to right, a post War Model "L", a late 50's Rocket, and a 25" Rolloway from the late 50's.

Thanks for the heads-up on the push mower. It's been in the family as long as I can remember.

I don't have much luck in getting pictures to enter here. I will try and submit the parts page for a "Model L" for your enjoyment. The Model L was in production from 1932 - 1935, 1936 - 1941, War years, 1945 - 1961.

Thanks for the ad! It mentions a "high cut" version. There is also a "High Cut" version of the Rocket. I found a possible source for 1 inch larger OD tires for my one of my Rockets. Haven't got them yet. Is the difference just tire diameter, or are they geared differently to maintain the reel to ground speed relationship the same as the standard mowers?

As far as I can tell, the tire height is the only difference. The Rocket Hi-Cut does have a different Series#, 1701 for 48-49, but the only difference listed in the Rocket parts list is the taller tire height. The Rocket and Rocket DeLuxe Series #'s are 11xx.

I have a lead on some taller tires. With the taller tires I would be able to use a Rocket during the summer months.
Also have a Rolloway for sale, Number is 1308, which ould make it a '60. Will post it in the classified's.
