Default Onan 300-3763 control board has resistor, not wire, why?

I have been following the long post about the BGE that is burning out coils.
In a recent post, "Arkie" has suggested cutting the W1 wire on the 300-3763 control board to isolate the control circuitry from the "house" battery.
I saw that as a reasonable thing to do, given the circumstances.
But, I just went to Ebay, and looked up that board. At "Dinosaur", the board shown has a resistor across the W1 pads. Why would that be? I's only about a 1/4 watt resistor, from the looks of it, so it can't pass very much power, I'd say.

Its called a zero ohm resistor. A solid wire goes through the molded part so that automated equipment can insert it into the board. We used a lot of those on CNC machine tool boards years ago.
