Dont hang out here much so Hi . Here,s what I have to pull with 91 F250 Lariat XLT 351 HD with 150,000 from new , going to need some E40d overdrive work soon, still has the exhaust with a manifold leak, but I have now a 14ft flat bed open and want to make me a Iron Hauler and sleeper + what might come down the road for a road trip after some truck mods. With winch just not all the bells and whistles that I could do or have. What are some of the names to like and run from out there these days Basic trailer looking for about -3000 to 4000 what have you all seen and 3500# axles brakes, and way to put a RV A/C in and ideas. I know a better truck but me and her have been in some pickles and not rusted out yet......

Re: A 16' or 18' enclosed V front???

We have a 16' Homesteader Patriot that we bought used from a fellow collector. The ramp door is nice until you have to load a heavy engine. Seems to be a well made trailer and the previous owner made a few changes to accomodate sleeping in it. Get the extra height if possible. I'm 6'1" and can stand up in ours.

Not sure how much the V front really helps on the aerodynamics. Even empty my diesel truck only musters about 11 mpg on the highway pulling it. It doesn't notice an empty flatbed trailer. Single digits when dad's Yukon gets the call to pull it.

The old truck is my baby since new, getting tired of sleeping the camper shell and with my scooter this and that time to upgrade, thought of other stuff but do with what you have, spend a little on her I know what I got about 11-17 mpg now, that is dragging to Iowa, south in Hills I have had little Jayco popup and a 20 Wellcraft in tow that was with a/C and about 7-8,. Just thinking about some good sleeping quarters and a MAJOR bug out wagon the way things are going......

Ditto on the extra height. I occasionally pull a 'V' front 14' with 2 brake axles with a 2000 GMC 1/2 ton with 5.3 L. with 150k miles. 13mpg empty trailer, 11 mpg loaded. Loaded included trailer loaded to capacity and truck a little overloaded. Keep speed to 65 and lock out the overdrive. With a good headwind you'll think your dragging an anchor.

I got to reading on some pros and cons, especially about stuff coming untied down and rolling into the walls etc. Guess there would be no dragging the 6 Mule or the 6United and down sizing what I bring. I got a shell with a bed in it now and in headwinds now it is like the Queen Mary anchor on back I could only guess what a enclosed would do I keep the OD out except down hills and about 60-65..
